I was working Keeneland we had horses to be sold..
I was in charge of setting up the day was starting to unfold.
When I went to receive a horse from around the truck he came.
This worn down beaten gentleman he said Charlie was his name.
He had a little kitten he had found along the way.
He asked if there was somewhere around the track that he could stay..
I said stash your stuff in our tack room you are welcome here to stay.
This man had rode here in a trailer quite a journey from L.A..
He said he had a wife and kids but didn’t see them much.
He went from sale to sale traveling and such.
Everybody loved him he and Baby made our days.
He had a quite soft speaking voice and easy going ways.
But when the sale was over they had to go away.
As he climbed into a trailer I stopped by there to say.
Charlie you be careful as I shook his feeble hand.
He said God has my back I’m sure you understand.
So as I drove back to the farm I thought of Charlie all the way.
I thanked the lord for sending him to be with us that day.
