Moments -- D. Waite
nothing belongs to me
only moments with each breath
a kiss from a loved one
tears with a death
a bank account for tomorrow
might never be withdrawn
golden years and sunsets
may never come along
moments are the jewels
that can easily be found
fools toil for tomorrow
too blind to look around
so i sit with a gray widow
we sip wine with my stay
she reminisces for me
the gems of her days
i bend my ear to the old men
see truth in their eyes
their weathered faces add luster
to adventurous lives
i feel a spirit on a wave
as its power brings me home
lose my breath watching pelicans
flight across the foam
i dance as the piano man
sings a slow Sinatra song
laugh with some friends
where cheer and smiles belong
on clear nights i gaze
upon brilliance in the skies
try to understand
what lay before my eyes
in solitude i listen
for God's whisper and grace
leave with peace and gratitude
towards each day that i face
between sunrise and slumber
those moments are mine
not hearts nor houses
only jewels that i find
