I often think about immigrants who are qualified doctors, scientists and engineers. The ones who are stuck driving taxies, waiting tables, or laying bricks. And It makes me fucking sick.
They Came all this way. only to realize their accomplishments and higher education don’t mean shit. they traveled across oceans for the promise of a better life.
Just to confirm the land of opportunity is indeed a myth. the colleges and universities make them start from scratch. Because their credential$ don’t quiet fit.
Having to jump through hoops endlessly. Leaves most highly skilled workers at the bottom of a fiscal pit. When dealing with the bureaucracies.
Such as legal status, employer recognition, And transferring of credits. It’s the professional version of bait and switch. Making qualified immigrants work backwards.
in order to move forward. If from the good life they’d ever want to take a hit. But the stench of superiority is evident.
In the attitudes of their colleagues. Thinking that just because they pay more for their education, it actually fucking means more. An illusion to which they gladly admit.
Every time they casually bring up their own alma maters. And talk down to others. As if what they have to offer was unfit.
But their talking to people who left their countries. sometimes freely, other times fleeing bloodthirsty despots. Knowing others would put up roadblocks.
And without a care spit. Because on some level they express the courage lacked. By those who could never understand the impact.
Of having to sacrifice everything. And to a new life commit. these are not people who will easily quit.
No matter how much the land of milk and honey has soured into shit.
